In the six-day period ending Monday, February 12th at 4:00 p.m., 2.77 inches of rain fell in Oakland, bringing our percent of normal precipitation to 63% for the period July 1, 2006, through February 12, 2006.
As of this writing, we are finally experiencing a reprieve from the recent rain that began last week. The next frontal system is not expected until early next week.
The Public Works Call Center staff received calls as usual, dispatching crews for mudslide cleanup, localized flooding and downed trees. Call volume was light with a total of 36 total weather-related calls received over the six-day period.
As winter rains returned, our crews were at the top of their game inspecting and cleaning inlets and storm drains. The Lake Merritt and hills areas were monitored by crews for any drainage-related issues. There were crews on standby for sandbag distribution, with 153 sandbags and 65 ft. of plastic sheeting distributed from the Municipal Service Center, and 179 sandbags and 145 ft. of plastic sheeting distributed from Shepherd Canyon yard over the six days.

Location of Problem Areas:
Tree Services received 8 emergency calls on February 10th, 11th and 12th.
Saturday
- 8691 Skyline Boulevard - A high voltage electrical wire burnt and landed on top of tree limbs - no tree work was required.
- 5217 West Street - A 12-inch diameter limb split from a tree and landed on the roof of a two-story building.
- Near 8401 Skyline Boulevard - A Monterey Cypress tree uprooted, and fell across the road landing on top of high voltage wires. As a result, the electricity to the neighborhood was out for most of the day, and impacted traffic flow in the area.
- Glen Manor Road near Grass Valley Road - A large tree fell and blocked Glen Manor Road. Glen Manor Road is a private street, thus, the homeowners association was responsible for the tree removal.
Sunday
- 12 Westwood Court – A Monterey Pine fell across Westwood Way, and blocked the street near Indian Way.
- 1939 Gaspar Drive – The top of an Acacia tree snapped and landed in the street, partially blocking the road.
Monday
- 5555 Ascot Drive – The top of an acacia tree broke and landed in the parking lot of Montera School.
- 38 Somerset Road – An Acacia tree uprooted, landed in the street, and partially blocked the road.
