7th Street West Oakland Transit Village

7th Street West Oakland Transit Village

The work in general includes the improvement of 7th Street. Conceptual design for the project was originally prepared by Walter Hood design team in 2004. Th design included improvements between Union Street and Wood Street. Attached poster shows the proposed improvements.

Due to lack of sufficient funding the project limits are changed. The new project limits are Union Street and Peralta Street. In addition, some of the streetscaping elements are also deleted due to lack of funding. The improvements constructed through this project will include:

Design of bulbouts, ADA ramps and pedestrian crossing at intersections of Mandela Parkway, Center Street, Chester Street, Henry Street and Peralta Street with 7th Street; design of bus stop on the south side of 7th Street between Mandela Parkway and Center Street; design of pedestrian mall on the south side of 7th Street between Center Street and Henry Street; evaluation of existing lighting level and design of new street and pedestrian lighting including the special affect lighting per City of Oakland PWA requirement between Union Street and Peralta Street; design of landscaping including irrigation system, trees and tree grates and guards between Union Street and Peralta Street in the sidewalk area and in the raised planters; design of any modifications to traffic signals to ease 2025 traffic flow at intersections of Mandela Parkway and Union Street with 7th Street; design of plaques for the Walk of Fame between Henry and Peralta Streets; design of replacement for sidewalk and curb & gutter to conform to ADA requirements and also to replace damaged sidewalk, curb & gutter at selected locations and design of gateway structure.

RFP for this improvement has been sent out. The City will receive proposals on November 9, 2007.
