Green Building Resource Center (GBRC)
What is the Green Building Resource Center?

The GBRC is a place where the public and city staff can explore the evolving field of Green Building.
Questions about what’s new and what's coming are answered here.
Green building creates spaces that benefit people and the planet.
Properly sized buildings that reduce the impact on the planet by minimizing site damage,
reduce construction waste, have good indoor air quality and are energy efficient typify Green.
Green Building has been a part of the culture at the City of Oakland for many years.
We have sponsored professional training programs with the Pacific Energy Center and the Build It Green Certified Green Builder Professional Training Program.
The GBRC was opened to help the public explore the current tools and information on Green Building and related topics such as Collaboration and the Holistic Approach to building.
Where is the GBRC?
The GBRC is in the Dalziel Building, 250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, 2nd floor.
It is conveniently situated next to the Planning and Permit Center.

Where does the Building Community fit into this picture?
In the US, buildings account for:
-
36% of total energy use
- 65% of electricity use
- 30% of greenhouse gas emissions
- 30% of raw materials use
- 30% of waste output
(136 million tons annually)
- 12% of potable water consumption
Green Building emphasizes reducing consumption and maximizing efficiency. Doing so reduces the pressure on the natural world for resources to ensure that we will have sufficient supplies into the future.
Why waste the resources our children will need?
