Green Food Packaging Ordinance - Effective January 1, 2007, Oakland food vendors may no longer use polystyrene foam (such as Styrofoam) disposable food service ware. |

Effective February 2006, State of California Department of Toxic Substance Control rules prohibit putting the items listed below in the garbage. Keeping these items out of the garbage and out of landfills will protect public health and our environment.
- Common single-use batteries and re-chargeable batteries
- Fluorescent tubes and bulbs and other mercury-containing lamps
- Mercury-containing devices such as thermometers, thermostats, electrical switches
