This division is primarily responsible for the park grounds and routine building maintenance of park buildings, fire stations, day care and senior centers, and other miscellaneous building structures including parking lots. Park maintenance includes litter pickup and removal, pruning, weeding, turf mowing, irrigation system repairs, and planting.
The division is responsible for the maintenance and repair of 309 City owned facilities comprising 3,026,269 square feet of space.
This includes maintenance and repair of all structural, mechanical, electrical, painting, and engineering systems, including routine, emergency and vandalism-related service requests.
Additionally, the division maintains:
- 87,628 linear feet of park fencing
- 101,688 linear feet of park pathways
- 134 parks and public grounds
- 104 street medians
- 5 swimming pools
- 75 basketball courts
- 48 tennis courts
- 51 field house restrooms
- a variety of park amenities.

- Maintains over 640 acres (one acre is about the size of a football field) of developed parks, public grounds, plazas and open space properties and 1,200 acres of open space.
- Maintains 100 streets landscaped with medians, special lighting and other amenities (e.g., Bancroft Avenue, Hegenberger Road).
- Service over 300 water meters in landscaped areas throughout the city.
- Spent over $468,000 using over 112 million gallons of water to irrigate these landscapes areas in 2006.
- A Park Equipment Operator has up to 37 facilities to mow during a week. Each Gardener covers about 11 acres of developed park property.

Construction and Maintenance Services
The Construction and Maintenance Services Section is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repair and upkeep of all city owned facilities at the request of the appropriate facilities manager. The CMSS is also responsible for building improvements, alterations, or additions as identified in the CIP Plan and the budget.
Building Maintenance
Responsible for structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical maintenance, including repairs to buildings, systems, and general areas such as pools, fencing, tot lots, and other specialized equipment, painting, coatings, and security services.
